500 years of the Renaissance in Val de Loire
Come celebrate 500 years of the Renaissance in region of Val de Loire ! An exceptional cultural season awaits us with nearly 500 cultural, festive and artistic events to celebrate five centuries of creation and innovation in our territory.
2019 will mark the fifth centenary of three key dates in the history of the Loire Valley : the birth of Catherine de Médicis (April 13), the death of Leonardo de Vinci in Amboise (May 2) and the beginning of the construction of the Chambord Castle (September 6).
Leonardo de Vinci, who symbolize the fields of arts and science worldwide, will be the face of this 500th anniversary. He, the Italian genius who died at the Château du Clos Lucé in Amboise, left an exceptional cultural, artistic, scientific and architectural heritage.
Throughout 2019, more than 500 cultural events will celebrate this anniversary. The major tourist attractions of the Val de Loire are working to offer public events, exceptional exhibitions, scientific seminars, visits and heritage routes, new products, etc.
Highlights of the 2019 season include :
Castle Clos Lucé in Amboise will exhibit from 30 May to 30 September 2019 "La Cène", the famous fresco of Leonardo da Vinci, now visible at the Vatican Museum
The royal castle of Blois will offer an exhibition on the child at the Renaissance
Castle of Chambord will host Franco-Italian Summit with Heads of State from both countries
The royal castle of Amboise will offer a new way of visiting with tablets, as well as other events such as concerts and balls
The domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire will unveil the restored chamber of Catherine de Médicis
The castle of the Rivau will exhibit some thirty contemporary works by artists who have been inspired by the Renaissance
