The history of the house

Family guest house near Sainte Maure de Touraine

Our house was built in 1800, at the foot of the keep, one of the three mounds surrounding the Vienne bridge. The property is bordered by an old communal washhouse, which gave its name to the old country road on which it is located.

The road bordering La Clé des Jardins, originally lower, was raised during the construction of the first bridge over the Vienne.

The facade of the house and the cellar walls are marked with the traces of the important streets of the Vienne, notably those of April 1, 1915, and that of April 1, 2024.

A friendly and warm house

The story of La Clé des Jardins began over 200 years ago, but it was in 2019 that it crossed paths with Sandrine and Sébastien. Your hosts are not originally from Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine, but they fell in love with the house, then the setting and the region.

A whole family welcomes you to this guesthouse: Mathias and Manon will be delighted to meet other children!

Your comfort is our priority: we offer pleasant services, while implementing small daily actions to preserve the environment.

A village between nature and heritage

Our guesthouse is located near the center of Nouâtre, a charming village steeped in history. The Allée des Romains and the Rue du Temple bear witness to the ancient era. The deep moats you can see marked the boundary of the central fort and the lower courtyard a thousand years ago.

During your stay, you can admire the church, built in 1435 on the site of an earlier church dating back to 940. Don't miss the ruins of the castle, built in the 13th century and destroyed during the Revolution in 1791.
